American Airlines Cuts To Target Tulsa Job Market

The Tulsa job market is about to take a hit and it will be a big one. The company announced that in an effort to pull itself out of bankruptcy and to create a more profitable stance, American Airlines will need to slash jobs. Many of those jobs could affect the Tulsa area. That comes as bad news to the thousands of people already out of work and actively looking in the area. The American Airlines maintenance facility located in Tulsa could take the largest hit. There, the company has noted it could cut as many as 2100 jobs. The location is where some 6800 workers are employed who work on the mechanics and the overhaul of the aircraft. It also works on jet engines. American Airlines is the third largest airline in the United States. The job cuts are not just being made in the Tulsa area, though.

Tulsa Job Market Good Start for Young People

According to a recent report, the city of Tulsa ranks number two of the top ten best cities for young people to find employment. The Fiscal Times reported that the city is high on the list for a number of reasons. There is no doubt that right now the region is struggling to find jobs (as is most of the country.) Many young adults, including those out of college, are finding it more difficult than ever to find positions in a very limited job landscape. The Tulsa job market, though, may be a better place to be. According to the Fiscal Times, the unemployment data for those aged 25 to 34 helped the city to do well. The company states, "It looks like this famed oil capital is continuing to see prosperity. Tulsa beat the national average by nearly six points, clocking in at just 4.5 percent unemployment for 25 to 34 year olds and just 6.2 percent in the grater area. Privately funded local initiatives have helped put this city at the top."

Tulsa Job Market Sees Jobless Rate Fall

The Tulsa job market saw the unemployment rate in the region fall by a significant margin to reach 6.4 percent in the month of November. That is down from a revised 6.7 percent for the previous month. This information indicates that the job market seems to be improving as workers are finding jobs. There may still be a long way to go, but for the Tulsa area, this news seems ideal. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics as well as the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission this report, issued on Wednesday is a positive sign for the area. In November of 2010, the unemployment rate in the region stood at 7.5 percent. The organizations conducted smaller reviews of the situation and found that the labor force and total employment for the region, which does include self employed individuals and farm jobs saw a rise in the market. The number of people claiming to be unemployed dropped substantially.
